I'm Jack Cameron. Welcome to my website.
I'm a retired lawyer living on California's Central Coast with my wife and two cats. I always imagined having a law practice in a small town like Sea Cliff, the setting for my new murder mystery, The Storm Drain Murder.
I graduated from law school in the tumultuous 1970s (Viet Nam, Watergate, the oil crisis, the inflation crisis, the hostage crisis). Like many young people of the day, I was restless, and practiced in the Midwest and East before settling in California.
People think law school teaches you how to practice law. Not true. You learn a lot about "the law," but very little about anything practical, like trying a case. I wanted some real world experience, so I signed up for the misdemeanor trial clinic, where I defended my first client in a court trial.
I wrote a short story about the experience - The Case of the Purloined Pork Chop. While it's fictionalized and humorous, the judge's verdict is how it actually happened.
I spent my career writing to address the crisis or issue of the moment. I always promised myself that I'd join a creative writing group someday, so I joined the Rough Writers of the Central Coast when I retired. Now, I write mysteries and short stories that interest me.
In June 2021, I signed a representation agreement with Laurie Blum Guest of the Re-Naissance Agency, Re-Naissanceagency.com.
